Highlight Summary

  • Looking for a kinisto alternative? For building materials distributors and manufacturers that want bills of quantities (BoQs), orders and supplier price requests in one system, written into the ERP, Mercura is the better fit: kinisto’s website does not mention order entry.

  • IT: Mercura documents ISO/IEC 27001, Entra ID SSO and SCIM; kinisto names “ISO/IEC 27001 certified data centers” and does not mention SSO or SCIM.

  • Choose kinisto for inquiry management with team collaboration and an audit trail, or as a EUROBAUSTOFF member.

What is Mercura, what is kinisto?

Mercura is AI software for quote and order automation in technical sales, for distributors and manufacturers. It reads requests, BoQs and orders in any common format, from GAEB to handwritten notes, matches every line to your item master incl. long text, sends supplier price requests and writes approved quotes and orders into your ERP. Uncertain lines are flagged, not guessed. For another segment, see our article on electrical wholesale software.

kinisto is building materials distributor software in its own words: “With the AI software kinisto, you automate how customer inquiries are processed: Designed for real-world workflows in building materials distribution”. Its FAQ says kinisto “was developed for construction suppliers (manufacturers and distributors).” Modules: inquiry management, BoQ processing, AI suggestions, collaboration, analytics.

Can kinisto capture orders from email and PDF?

kinisto’s website does not mention order entry. It describes inquiries, BoQs and quotes up to the ERP or CRM handover. Mercura captures orders from email and PDF in the same platform. It detects duplicates, keeps delivery schedules per line and flags failed ERP exports for retry. More on order processing.

Example (illustrative): A bill of quantities excerpt and three contractor orders, one sent twice. Mercura prepares the quote, captures the orders and warns about the duplicate.

How does kinisto handle variants and configurable products?

kinisto’s FAQ says: “kinisto can also suggest product variants. However, this is somewhat more complex”. It continues: “If your company typically offers custom manufacturing or complex variants, the use of AI product suggestions may not be practically feasible.” kinisto can then still be used for inquiry management and BoQ reading.

Mercura offers a product configurator with variant selection. It also assigns several items and accessories to one line, with multipliers and mandatory items. More on quotes and tenders.

Example (illustrative): A BoQ line asks for a facade panel, 1,200 x 600 mm, color after sampling, fixings included. Mercura selects the variant, flags the open color and adds fixings as a mandatory accessory per panel.

Does kinisto read Excel lists, photos and handwritten notes?

kinisto names its inputs as “bills of quantities (PDF, GAEB), email requests and material lists”. kinisto’s website does not mention Excel, CSV or Word as request formats, nor photos, drawings or handwritten notes. The FAQ mentions Excel for uploading product data. The website also does not mention optional and contingency line items or flagged inconsistencies. Mercura covers all of these. Our article on GAEB software vs. AI explains the difference between classic GAEB tools and AI.

Example (illustrative): A foreman’s photographed note lists cement, sand-lime blocks and rebar mesh. Mercura matches the lines to the item master and flags an unreadable quantity.

Which IT and security requirements are documented?

kinisto’s website does not mention SSO or SCIM. It names “ISO/IEC 27001 certified data centers”. Per its FAQ, hosting is on Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform, and “Data from different customers is logically separated.” A kinisto blog article adds that the software “is operated exclusively in data centers within the European Union.”

Both state hosting in Europe. Mercura itself is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and keeps a separate tenant per customer. It supports Entra ID SSO with SCIM and offers a UI in 9+ languages.

Example (illustrative): IT grants access via an Entra ID group; with SCIM, leavers are locked out of Mercura automatically.

Choose kinisto if …

  • inquiry management and its analysis are your priority: kinisto recognizes “construction projects, submission dates, and relevant items”, sorts inquiries into folders and tags, and tracks the “rate of quotes delivered on time” and competitive situations.

  • your team quotes together and wants chat, comments and a “Who-did-what-when protocol”.

  • you want native connectors for SAP R/3 or Dynamics 365 Business Central, or flows via Zapier, Make or n8n.

  • you are a EUROBAUSTOFF member: kinisto states that members get special conditions.

  • you want a quick start: kinisto names a setup of “typically 0-2 days” with your product data and ERP interface, followed by a test with all features.

Choose Mercura if …

  • you are a building materials distributor or manufacturer and want BoQs, orders and supplier requests in one system and your ERP.

  • you need variants and accessories with multipliers and mandatory items.

  • requests arrive as photos, Excel, Word or handwritten notes, and contingency lines and inconsistencies should be flagged.

  • your IT requires ISO/IEC 27001, Entra ID SSO with SCIM or a multilingual UI.

  • your inside sales team should see the reason for each item suggestion, next to the source passage and confidence.

Civil engineering supplier Muffenrohr works up to 60% faster with Mercura, as its success story shows. Mercura’s average match rate is 92%; it varies by customer and catalog.
