Highlight Summary

  • Looking for a Scalera alternative? For distributors and manufacturers that want bills of quantities (BoQs), orders and supplier price requests handled in one system and written into the ERP, Mercura is the better fit.

  • Distributors: stock per location, contingency items and ETIM are documented for Mercura, not mentioned on Scalera’s website.

  • Pricing: Scalera publishes a range of “€8,000-€60,000 annually”; Mercura publishes no prices. Scalera wins this point.

  • For general contractors that want to match BoQ lines to suppliers, send requests and compare bids in a bid tabulation, Scalera is the better fit.

What is Mercura, what is Scalera?

Mercura is AI software for quote and order automation in technical sales, for distributors and manufacturers. It reads requests, BoQs and orders (email, PDF incl. scans, Excel, Word, photos, drawings, handwritten notes, GAEB), matches every line to your own item master, sends supplier price requests and writes the approved quote or order into your ERP. Uncertain lines are flagged, not guessed. For a broader view, see our quoting software comparison.

Scalera (Scalera AG, Zurich) says: “Win more tenders through Intelligent Spec-to-Product Matching.” Product Matching matches tender lines to a supplier’s catalog; Supplier Matching assigns BoQ lines to suppliers and subcontractors and sends requests. The homepage addresses suppliers and general contractors.

Does Scalera produce a ready-to-send quote as PDF or GAEB X84?

Scalera’s website does not describe creating a PDF quote in Scalera. It documents that you can “Export matched tenders via CSV, XML, GAEB, or API directly into ERP, CPQ, or CRM systems”. The GAEB phase X84 is not named. Mercura creates a PDF quote with technical attributes. It also exports GAEB X84, Excel or CSV, and custom ERP formats such as XML and JSON. More on quotes and tenders.

Example (illustrative): For an X83 file with 120 lines, Mercura exports the reviewed X84 and a PDF quote showing insulation value and fire class.

Does Scalera distinguish stock and order items per location?

Scalera’s website does not mention stock vs. order items per location. It documents locations as “a segmented team of users … that can have distinct product catalogs, workflows, and branding preferences”. At Mercura, stock per location is configurable. More on Mercura for building materials distributors.

Example (illustrative): A tender lists a drainage system across 35 lines. With stock data set up, Mercura shows the rep which lines her branch has in stock and which are order items.

Does Scalera detect contingency items and use ETIM attributes?

Scalera’s website does not mention optional or contingency line items, or ETIM attributes in matching. It documents “the rationale and AI confidence score” per suggestion and recognition of competitor products. Mercura detects contingency items and uses ETIM classes and attributes in matching. Our guide to the bill of quantities explains how a BoQ is structured.

Example (illustrative): For “ball valve DN 25, PN 16, brass”, Mercura compares the ETIM attributes in the item master with the long text and flags the BoQ’s contingency items as such. More on BoQ pricing for pipes, pumps and valves.

Does Scalera cover order entry and SFTP?

Scalera describes order processing only in resource articles, not on its product pages. According to them, incoming orders from PDF, Excel, email text or photos are read and the sales order is passed to the ERP or CRM. Scalera’s website does not mention SFTP. SAP IDoc interfaces, a REST API and webhooks are documented. Mercura handles order entry in the same platform as quotes. It detects duplicates, keeps delivery schedules per line and flags failed ERP exports for retry. Data reaches the ERP via REST API, webhooks or SFTP. More on order processing and integrations.

Example (illustrative): An order arrives as a photo of a form with handwritten additions, then again by email. Mercura reads both, warns about the duplicate and hands one order to the ERP via SFTP.

Choose Scalera if …

  • you want a published price range up front, with plans by tenders per year and locations.

  • you handle BoQs in NPK or ÖNORM formats, which Scalera’s website names explicitly.

  • you are a general contractor and want BoQ lines matched to suppliers and subcontractors, with automatic reminders for missing quotes.

  • you want supplier bids turned into a bid tabulation automatically, “including flags for missing prices, lump sums and outstanding responses”.

  • you run Abacus as your ERP.

Choose Mercura if …

  • you need a ready-to-send quote as a PDF with technical attributes or as GAEB X84.

  • you are a distributor and need stock per location, contingency items and ETIM in matching.

  • you want quotes and orders in one platform, handed to the ERP via REST API, webhooks or SFTP.

  • you want to test on your own data, usually within 2 working days.

At the plumbing and HVAC distributor Sanitär-Heinze, a quote takes 2 hours instead of 2 days, up to 90% faster, and 100% of incoming requests are processed, up from around 70%. Read the full Sanitär-Heinze story. Mercura’s average match rate is 92%; it varies by customer and catalog.
