Highlight Summary

  • On bill of quantities automation with GAEB, the German tender format, the two are close: reading X83/D83, contingency items and X84 export are documented for both.

  • Looking for a turian alternative? For distributors and manufacturers that want BoQs, orders and supplier price requests in one system, with ETIM, BMEcat/DATANORM, branches and multilingual teams, Mercura is the better fit.

  • For companies that also want procurement automation, an Outlook add-in, or data on-premise or in their own cloud tenant, turian is the better fit.

  • Neither vendor publishes prices.

What is Mercura, what is turian?

Mercura is AI software for quote and order automation in technical sales. It reads requests, bills of quantities (BoQs) and orders as email, PDF incl. scans, Excel, Word, photos or GAEB files, matches every line item to your own item master, requests missing items from suppliers and writes the approved quote or order into the ERP. The average match rate is 92 %, varying by customer and catalogue. Our article on OCR vs. AI order entry explains the difference between text recognition and AI.

turian positions itself with “Automate your sales and procurement workflows”; per its FAQ, it automates sales orders, quote requests, bills of quantities and supplier order confirmations. Its target group is “mid-market manufacturers, distributors, and wholesalers”. The operator is Uify Technologies GmbH in Berlin.

Do both read GAEB files and export X84?

Both document this. turian names GAEB DA XML (X83, X84, D83, D84 and other phases), “handles provisional sums and alternative positions correctly” and “generates a valid X84 response file”. Mercura reads X83, D83, P83 and X81, detects optional and contingency line items and exports X84. More on Mercura for building materials distributors.

Example: An X83 with 180 line items includes 6 contingency items. Both tools flag them; in Mercura, supplier requests for missing items follow before the X84 export.

Can turian create supplier price requests straight from the BoQ?

turian’s website does not mention supplier price requests created from a BoQ. It documents supplier communication on order confirmations and reminders, and collecting and comparing incoming supplier offers. Mercura creates price requests from the BoQ as GAEB P93 or Excel. It sends them from the clerk’s own mailbox and files the replies against the line items automatically. More on quotes and tenders.

Example: In the BoQ above, 15 lines have no stock item; Mercura bundles them into P93 requests to three suppliers and attaches the replies to the lines. At Sanitär-Heinze, time per quote with Mercura dropped from 2 days to 2 hours, as its success story shows.

Does turian use ETIM attributes and item data from BMEcat or DATANORM?

turian’s website does not mention ETIM attributes in matching or item data via BMEcat or DATANORM. Its implementation guide names an ERP system, an exported spreadsheet, a PIM system or a supplier catalog file as sources for the product catalog. Mercura uses ETIM classes and features in matching and imports item data via BMEcat, DATANORM, CSV or Excel. More in our solutions for distributors.

Example: For a B16 circuit breaker, 3-pole, 10 kA, Mercura compares rated current, poles and breaking capacity from the ETIM features with the long text and suggests the matching item.

Does turian support branches, legal entities, roles and a multilingual UI?

turian’s website does not mention branches, legal entities or its UI languages. It documents granular access controls, and a 2023 post under its former name Uify names granular roles and permissions. It also documents processing documents “in any language”. Mercura maps branches, legal entities and roles and offers a UI in 9+ languages. In a 2023 product update under the name Uify, turian documented Okta SSO with SCIM in its Enterprise tier; Microsoft Entra ID is not named. Mercura supports SSO with Microsoft Entra ID and SCIM. More on solutions for manufacturers.

Example: A manufacturer with companies in Germany, Poland and Romania sets up one legal entity each; the Romanian team works in a Romanian UI, and roles control who releases quotes.

Choose turian if …

  • You want to automate procurement as well as sales: order confirmations, supplier reminders, a purchase order cockpit.

  • Your team should check and edit documents in Outlook via an add-in.

  • Your IT wants on-premise data storage or the models in your own Azure tenant or Google Cloud project; turian is certified to ISO 27001:2022.

  • You want BoQ suggestions to “Automatically prioritize your highest-margin products”.

  • You want customer-specific price logic such as “list price + 12%” applied automatically.

Choose Mercura if …

  • You want supplier price requests straight from the BoQ, with replies filed automatically.

  • ETIM attributes and BMEcat or DATANORM item data should feed the matching.

  • You want to offer an equivalent from your own range for competitor products named in a tender.

  • You work with branches, legal entities, Entra ID SSO and multilingual teams.

  • Quotes and orders should run in one system and land in SAP, Dynamics 365, proALPHA or UniTrade through Mercura’s integrations, as described for order processing.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mercura a turian alternative?

Yes; for BoQs, quotes and orders both cover similar jobs. Mercura fits better for supplier requests from the BoQ, ETIM, BMEcat/DATANORM and multi-branch structures; turian when procurement should be automated too, or data must stay on-premise or in your own cloud tenant. For order entry, see also Mercura vs. Workist.

What do turian and Mercura cost?

Neither publishes prices; turian’s pricing page redirects to the home page. Mercura pricing on request.

Which ERP systems do turian and Mercura support?

turian names SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC and Microsoft Dynamics 365, among others. Mercura connects SAP S/4HANA, ECC and Business One, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce, proALPHA and UniTrade, others via REST API, webhooks or SFTP. How orders reach the ERP automatically is covered in our article on sales order automation.

How fast is the start?

On its homepage, turian states that implementations “typically take four to six weeks” and offers a proof of concept with historical documents. Elsewhere on its website, turian names “PoC in 1–2 weeks · Live in 3–4 weeks” and, for order confirmations, an implementation time of “just a few days”. Mercura: a test on your own data, usually within 2 working days.
